PERFORMANCE
I specialize in close shots that can be thought of as live performance portraiture. My objective is to capture the energy of the performers in the unique context of each genre, venue and audience. I want to convey the actual moment, as opposed to manufacturing a sense of action, emotion, or distance. To achieve this, I watch each set of performers very closely and adapt my position and timing to what I observe in them. I shoot without flash and do not retouch images.
EVENTS
At public and private events, I strive to capture candid moments that demonstrate the spirit of the event, and celebrate the people in attendance. I am especially interested in moments of delighted discovery and, on the other end of the energetic spectrum, those of quiet contemplation or temporary withdrawal. My goal is to deliver a set of images that convey the range of experiences and emotions produced by the event. As in performance photography, I shoot without flash and do not retouch images.
